October 9, 2017- Highland Rewrites the Zoning Rules
The Highland Town Council officially adopted Ordinance No. 1659, a massive legislative move that comprehensively updated the municipal zoning code that regulates land use, building heights, and property boundaries across the town today.
Interesting Rules:
Under Highland's municipal code, "fortunetelling" is officially classed as an offense that carries a $250 fine!
Additionally, the town's noise ordinances make it strictly unlawful to honk your car horn unless it is for a genuine emergency or explicitly required by traffic laws.

Come Say Hi to Highland’s New Superintendent
Highland residents have two chances this week to sit down with local police officers over a cup of coffee. The first Coffee with a Cop event is Tuesday, October 6, from 9-11 a.m. at the Starbucks inside Target.
A second event follows Friday, October 9, from 9-11 a.m. at Sip in Highland. The informal gatherings give residents a chance to ask questions, share concerns, and get to know officers outside of an emergency or traffic stop.
There’s no formal agenda - just conversation and coffee. Stop by whichever location works best for you.

Hang Up! Highland Police Warn of Phone Scams
Highland Police Chief Ralph Potesta warned the Town Council on Sept. 28 that two familiar phone scams are making the rounds again.
In one case, a 28-year-old resident was told she had missed jury duty and needed to pay $5,000 to clear it up. In another, an elderly resident was told he had won $7.5 million but first needed to buy $1,250 in money orders.
Both residents recognized the calls as scams and avoided losing money. Police are reminding residents that courts do not call demanding payment for missed jury duty, and legitimate prizes do not require upfront payment with money orders or gift cards.
If you get a call like this, hang up, report it to Highland Police, and make sure family members know what to watch for too.
Talk soon,
