🎁 Fill a Stocking for a Senior This Holiday Season
A Highland business is bringing back a holiday tradition aimed at making the season a little brighter for local seniors.
Care in Motion, a home care company at 8131 Kennedy Ave., is holding its fourth annual Stocking Stuffers for Seniors program, which pairs older adults with donors who fill holiday stockings especially for them.
Care in Motion is now accepting information for seniors who would like to receive a stocking through Nov. 6. Recipients must be 65 or older, and organizers note that they cannot guarantee every applicant will be matched with a donor.
That is where the community can help. Anyone interested in sponsoring a senior or submitting a senior to receive a stocking can contact Care in Motion at 219-487-2090, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
A stocking may be a small gesture, but it can help make sure an older neighbor feels remembered during the holidays.
🛡️ October Is Cybersecurity Awareness Month - Here Are 5 Ways to Protect Yourself
Passwords, bank accounts, email and even family photos all live online now, which makes basic digital security just as important as locking the front door.
Indiana's Department of Homeland Security says more than 23,000 Hoosiers were victims of online cyberattacks in 2024, with losses exceeding $125 million
Gov. Mike Braun has proclaimed October 2026 as Cybersecurity Awareness Month, highlighting the growing risks from phishing, identity theft, ransomware and other online attacks. Indiana also established a new Office of Cybersecurity this summer to coordinate the state's efforts to prevent and respond to cyber threats.
For Highland households, the state's advice starts with a few simple habits:
🔐 Use strong, unique passwords. Avoid using the same password across multiple accounts.
📱 Turn on multi-factor authentication. That extra verification step can help protect an account even if someone gets your password.
📧 Be suspicious of unexpected messages. Don't click unfamiliar text links, download unexpected attachments or send personal or financial information in response to unsolicited emails or texts.
🔄 Keep your devices updated. Install operating system, app and security updates, or turn on automatic updates when available.
💾 Back up important files. Keep copies of important documents and photos somewhere separate from your main device, such as cloud storage or an external drive.
Indiana's Cybersecurity Hub also offers additional guidance for individuals and businesses, including information about phishing, online scams, passwords and protecting personal information.
A few minutes spent tightening up your digital security now could save a much bigger headache later.

🏈 Trojans Close the Season Showing Grit Against Hobart
Highland’s football season came to an end Friday night in the IHSAA sectional at Hobart, where the Brickies won 30-7. But the score tells a story of its own: just one week earlier, Hobart beat the Trojans 42-0.
In the rematch, Highland cut the gap by nearly 30 points and found the end zone against one of the area’s top programs.
It capped a season with some memorable nights, including a 50-7 win over Whiting and a 28-0 shutout at Kankakee Valley that snapped a five-game skid and gave the Trojans their first conference win.
Thanks to the players, coaches and families for a season of hard work, and congratulations to the seniors on their final game in blue and gold!
