Here’s Why Experts Say to Ditch Your Old Cutting Boards

Before you prep another meal, here’s what you need to know:
Plastic boards shed microplastic particles into your food with every cut.
Wooden boards trap moisture and food residue, the perfect breeding ground for hidden bacteria and toxic mold that transfers to your food.

Did You Know: It was founded by local Dutch businessmen Hank Van Till and John Groot to help handle the massive influx of wealth coming in from the town's early cabbage and pickle boom.

Come Say Hi to Highland’s New Superintendent
Haven’t had a chance to meet Highland’s new superintendent yet? The School Town of Highland is hosting three community meet-and-greets with Dr. John Schwuchow, and students, families and residents are all invited.
Each event begins at 6 p.m., starting Monday, October 5, in the Highland High School Auditorium. Additional meet-and-greets are scheduled for October 21 at Johnston Elementary and October 28 at Warren Elementary.
It’s a casual opportunity to say hello, ask questions and get to know the person leading the School Town of Highland. Whether you have children in the district or simply care about Highland’s schools, everyone is welcome.
Sectional Soccer Comes to Highland
Highland High School will host the IHSAA Class 3A Boys Soccer Sectional from Oct. 6-10, bringing seven area teams to town for a shot at the title. The field includes East Chicago Central, Hammond Central, Hammond Morton, Highland, Lake Central, Merrillville and Munster, with the Trojans opening Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 5 p.m. against Merrillville.
If Highland wins, the boys advance to the semifinals Thursday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m., with the sectional championship set for Saturday, Oct. 10, at 6 p.m. Admission is $8 per session or $20 for all sessions, and children 5 and under get in free.
Highland’s girls are also entering postseason play as the defending Class 2A sectional champions, adding another reason for Trojan soccer fans to pay attention this week.
The boys sectional champion moves on to the regional semifinals Oct. 15.
